At last week’s Association for Community Rail Partnerships (ACORP) Awards held this year at Southport, The Cambrian Railways Partnership working in partnership with Arriva Trains Wales netted a second place award in the Community Art Schemes’ category for our work with primary school pupils on the Cambrian Coast Line.
The project, part of our highly innovative ‘Confident Traveller Project’ involved getting school pupils to design their own rail safety posters with the winners at each school seeing their designs enlarged to the railway standard ‘double royal’ size and displayed at their local stations in poster cases funded by the partnership and erected at stations by Arriva Trains Wales.
The posters added a touch of vibrancy and colour at the stations, spreading an important safety message to station users, and further strengthened links between the local schools and their local rail service.
Rhydian Mason, Rail Development Officer for the Cambrian Railways Partnership said that this was another strong acknowledgement of the work that the Partnership undertakes with Arriva Trains Waels on the Cambrian Lines:
“This is another excellent accolade for our approach to linking communities with our rail service and another example of how train operating companies can work with their local community rail partnership to achieve fantastic results. Over the past 5 years or so we’ve engaged with thousands of young people and have really improved links between them and local schools, and the support we’ve received from all concerned including the Welsh Government has been fundamental in allowing us to progress these projects.
“Our thanks go to Arriva Trains Wales for their fantastic work and also to the schools who have allowed us to engage with their pupils, and of course, the biggest thanks goes to the pupils themselves who’ve come up with some fantastic posters that are proudly displayed for all to see”.
